Explainer video: Trauma is a wound

Trauma is a wound that can have a profound impact on your life. According to Gabor Maté, trauma is not defined by any event, but rather by the internal response to it. Biodynamic Craniosacral therapists understand that trauma affects you at an energetic level, and can have lasting effects on your physical, emotional, and psychological well-being.

In this explainer video, a Biodynamic Craniosacral perspective is offered on trauma as an energetic wound and how it can be healed. If you are looking for a way to heal from trauma, this video may provide helpful insights.

Healing Trauma: A personal Success Story

Annabelle was in a state of crisis when she first came to see me. She had been trying to get an appointment with an ACC counsellor, but she couldn’t get onto the wait list. She found me online and booked an appointment not knowing what to expect but knowing she needed help immediately.

As Annabelle opened up, she revealed a history  of neglect and cruelty in a dysfunctional family. She felt undervalued, unappreciated, and unloved. She was living in a house she didn’t enjoy and working a job she hated. Annabelle, felt shame about her tattoos, didn’t show her skin to anyone and couldn’t tolerate being touched. She was anxious, distressed, and felt alone.

During her sessions, Annabelle experienced rapid transformation. Each session, her body shed massive amounts of overwhelm and shock energy. She was clearing out a lot of trauma, and it was not a passive process. After the first session, she felt emotional and happy to be in her body and feel safe – for the first time. After that session she started to have massages, something that was impossible before and she was enjoying it.  She never felt overwhelmed with the pace of change, which was fast, and she would integrate the shift and be back for the next layer to come off.

Over three months of regular sessions Annabelle’s life completely changed. She moved cities, found a home with people she was comfortable with, had a new friend who cared for her, and had a new job she enjoyed going to with hours that suited her. She had new healthy interests and even started enjoying dancing, something she was too self-conscious to do before her healing.

When Annabelle returned to Wellington, she came for a session. She was wearing a short sleeved top, showing her tattoos, something she was too ashamed to do before. She no longer wears glasses, her eyes have relaxed so much that she doesn’t need them. She explained that this time, she wasn’t coming to see me because of trauma, she wanted to see what else could happen. She did some deep work, and when the session finished, she felt free. She was radiant, open, and embodied. Annabelle never did start counselling, ACC never offered her a place on a wait list. She feels like life has started, and she is optimistic about her future.

My body always felt like this awkward thing that was never clean enough or small enough for other people. Having other people physically close to me, brought up so much anxiety and discomfort.

My first session with Sonia was the first time I have ever experienced what it’s like to relax and feel safe in front of someone and to connect with my body

Defining trauma as a wound

Trauma is a term used to describe the lasting effects of any distressing and overwhelming experience(s). Trauma can cause physical, emotional, or psychological wounds that can have a significant impact on your life.

From a Biodynamic Craniosacral perspective, healing from trauma is seen as an energetic process, that can affect a person’s thoughts, behaviours, body, and overall health. It is important to understand that trauma is not just a difficult experience, but a wound that requires healing and support to overcome.

The physical, emotional and psychological impact of trauma

Experiencing trauma can have a profound impact on your physical, emotional and psychological well-being. Physically, trauma can manifest in a variety of ways, including headaches, fatigue, muscle tension, and disrupted sleep patterns. Emotionally, trauma can lead to feelings of fear, anxiety, depression, and anger, which can affect a person’s ability to function in their daily life and maintain healthy relationships. Psychologically, trauma can show up as repetitive thoughts, vigilant attention, limiting self-beliefs, and sensitivity to triggers. Seeking support and treatment for trauma is crucial in addressing the impacts of trauma and promoting healing and recovery.

Seeking professional help for Trauma recovery

A Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapist can offer a safe and transformative space for trauma healing and recovery at an energetic level. This approach is not about simply managing symptoms, but rather allowing your body to process and release the overwhelming energies of the trauma. By doing so, you can experience true healing and move forward with greater resilience and well-being.

Trauma is a wound that can heal

I have experienced so many changes, like how I no longer find myself holding by breath, I sleep better than I was ever able to, I let people see me (including my mistakes), and my body feels free and natural to be in.

I am so grateful I can experience what it feels like to really heal.

Explainer Video Transcript: Trauma is a Wound

Trauma “isn’t what happened to you, but what happened Inside of you – It’s a wound.” (Gabor Maté)
To live your life to It’s full potential, it doesn’t matter how you got your wounds, It matters that you heal them.
trauma Is fundamentally an energetic wound.
1. It’s located somewhere In or around your body
2. It Is made up of the force that was projected onto you
3. It Is organised In a way to protect you from overwhelm, sealing off the trauma energy inside until you are ready to heal
4. And It organises your body limiting the full expression of your health
To heal, you need the right conditions, just as a deep cut needs to be kept clean, dry and protected to heal,.
You need The support of another person, someone who can offer a safe space for your system to digest the energetic overwhelm held within.
And you need someone able to tune Into your energetic process and allow It to unfold naturally.
Then …The protective organisation opens up and disentangles
The old energy gets disperses
The body gets new energy and reorganises around greater health
And then you feel different – lighter, more relaxed, like a burden has been lifted – because It has.
Biodynamic Craniosacral therapy offers a powerful healing touch that works directly with your body and energy . It heals the energetic roots of trauma.
That’s what I see happen all the time.
