Meet Sonia Ogier a wellington based somatic practitioner

I know what it’s like to live a life informed by overwhelm - that’s what my life used to be like.

My wakeup call came when I was 35 years old. I was extremely stressed out, and very outwardly focused on doing a ‘good job’ at work. I lived in a conceptual world full of trauma narratives - I had no idea. I was seriously ill and had just discovered I had ovarian and uterine cancer. A lot seemed to be ‘wrong’ with my body.

I have spent the last 15 years healing from within. I’ve learnt about presence, psychology, inner development, trauma resolution, the body and energy. I’ve spent 1,000’s of hours inquiring, exploring, learning, meditating and growing. I have studied in the USA, Canada, Mexico, and Australia with internationally recognised leaders who have deep wisdom about who we are, trauma resolution, and human potential.

I now have a radically different experience of myself, one that is embodied and clear. My mind is usually very quiet. My body is predominately at peace - always unfolding, but now informed by presence and healthy inner regulation. It’s a very different life. I am fully me.

The key shift in my inner journey came when my body started to lead my healing.

When I started to learn to work with trauma and the body my healing process tracked exponential growth. It’s because my mind and those I had given authority too, were no longer setting the agenda - my body was. And the body is smart, really really smart. It is truly not separate from your mind. We are an undivided whole.

When my body was given a chance to be heard and speak its language, I started to become more embodied. I came back to present-time in a more integrated way, and my body would reorganise itself in a more optimal way. My mind got softer, gentler, and more resilient.

I discovered that no process is more efficient and effective than the one led from within - meditation, self-reflection, talking & inquiring are all valuable but they are not as powerful if they are not aligned to the body’s inner wisdom. It’s really the biggest secret hidden in plain sight I know of.

The wisdom of the body is wisdom we are culturally estranged from.

It means I offer a really safe, embodied space for your process

My own journey has led me to this point of integration, where my felt-sense (through my hands), subtle perception, knowledge of overwhelm & trauma, the body, and how use the mind to support healing all work together to serve my clients.

You find me at a time in my life, when it is my deepest pleasure and joy to support others to discover the power in their body-mind to heal from traumas of all kind. It’s all so possible.

I’ve been fortunate to study with a number of exceptional human beings…

A H Almass, Dr Aline LaPierre, Charles Ridley, Ged Sumner, Giorgia Milne, Judith Blackstone, Matt Kahn, Roma Hammel, Scott Zamurut, Teena Walker, Stewart Cubley, and Zeb Lancaster

I’m also a big fan of Alan Watts - he was my gateway into healing. His audios kept me company for many hours as I started to navigate myself to healing, health, and awakening.

And there are other teachers and healers who have inspired and supported me, like Gabor Maté, Peter Levine, Richard Rudd, and Franklyn Sills.

I deeply appreciate all those who have and continue to support my growth and development. We all need support and I’m so glad I’ve had the support I’ve had.

Previous career

Before transitioning to a career as a somatic practitioner, I spent years working in various sectors, including universities, government departments, and private organisations.

During that period of my life, my work centred around evaluating and reviewing social programs and organisations with the goal of improving outcomes for society and specific groups of people.

While I remain passionate about creating positive change on a larger scale, my current focus is on empowering individuals to transform themselves from within.
